The most junior of all are nursing assistants or CNA. These nurses are responsible for patient care activities; they keep an eye on patient’s condition so that the senior nurses can be informed in any unexpected situation. Then there are licensed practical nurses who are senior than certified nursing assistants but junior than registered nurses. They supervise their junior nurses, check and keep the record of patient’s vital signs. The most senior nurse in a health care facility is a registered nurse. Duties of registered nurse include supervision of junior nurses, medication of patient and informing physicians if the patient’s condition gets worse. You can start your career with a nursing assistant and then get to the post of registered nurse. Starting a career as a certified nursing assistant would only require a few weeks training and clearence of an exam for certification purpose. One can also start career directly with LPN or RN by getting a four-year degree, two-year associate degree or a one-year diploma and then passing an exam. Different types of nurses appear in different exams, which would test the abilities of candidates according to their job duties.
