Dental hygienists are qualified in preventive oral health and different methods of maintaining oral health. Dental hygienists are also licensed and capable of administering local anesthesia procedure. In addition, these people are licensed to perform dental cleaning tasks like prophylaxis, scaling and root planning. When a person visits a dental hygienist, he firstly checks patient’s dental history and then performs any required x-rays. He would also check the condition of patient’s mouth and diagnose the problem after a few checkups. The next step requires planning the treatment with the consultation of patient. Before going with any treatment, dental hygienists would explain the treatment procedure and expenses to the patient. The next step would be to start the treatment and then finally show results to the patient. Dental hygienists make frequent phone calls to the patients for follow-ups after every session of treatment. They are required to have a four-year college degree in the relevant field to start their career. Dental hygienists exam is divided into three sections, which they must pass before practicing professionally. Their exams are conducted on three different levels namely, national board, clinical board and state board. All these exams test theoretical knowledge as well as practical skills of a person wishing to become a Dental hygienist.
